Mixing cotton with denim is an everyday basic that is a go-to for most of us.  If you change the top fabric to a silk, then you have an unexpected, chic street style look.  You could try a bold, unexpected printed top also.  In the winter, you can pair your denim with fur for a look that will surely turn heads. You just need an unexpected match to your denim to change your everyday look, into a street style look.

Shoes

This is a favorite subject of most girls we know, including us! The shoe will set the tone for your whole look and be the outfit maker.  Here just about anything goes, try your favorite evening heel in the day. A vintage, old school sneaker can also give you an edge. Lace-up flats are also a go-to for a street style look.  Just think a little outside the box or a lot!  The more of a statement shoe you choose the better.

Accessories

Accessories are where you want to pull in the current trends.  Carrying the current It Bag is a sure way to add to a street style look, maybe in an unexpected color that pops with your shoes.  Adding trend based jacket or a fun long vest is a sure way to get the look you want. Statement sunnies are a must to polish off your look.
Street Style is all about an unexpected look that works.  You can do this by having a stand out item, like shoes or bag, and keeping the rest of your outfit simple but edgy.  Maybe add a cuff on the denim done in an unexpected way or layer on a trendy jacket.  Just have fun with it!
For our look above, we stayed with a casual, street style vibe.  A white shirt with denim is such a classic go to look.  We changed the white shirt from cotton, to a silk fabric (Tammy’s, Lisa’s  to elevate the look.  The denim pants we choose were a trendy crop, with a kick out flare and unraveled and frayed edge.  The shorts are frayed and destroyed cut offs with a little pocket showing.  We added of the moment lace up shoes (similar  ) and structured It Bags. (Similar  and )  The blush printed Zara bomber (love this similar one ) adds a fun current feel. We finished off with sunnies that we love!
We would love to hear about your street style looks in the comments below.

1. Make sure the length is midi for your height. A midi skirt off the rack may not hit everyone at the most flattering midi length. What is that length? About two inches below the knee. You don’t want to the midi skirt to be so long it hits at the widest part of the calf. The highest stilettos in the world won’t slim you out.
2. Choose a neutral first. Despite the trendiness of a midi skirt, it’s actually a flattering, versatile silhouette. We suggest starting with a midi skirt in navy, black, gray or camel if you plan on wearing it for work and play. Only doing the midi off-duty? Try a denim midi skirt.
3. Don’t be afraid of print midi skirts. We are seeing a lot of soft abstract floral prints, fine optic prints and thin vertical stripes for midi skirts. Try any print midi skirt with a twinset at the office and with a V-neck T-shirt and moto jacket on the weekend.
4. Go for a streamlined shoe. We aren’t here to tell you you must wear heels with a midi skirt, but you do want to stick with a streamlined shoe. Anything more will look too heavy with a midi length skirt. Stacked heels, stacked heel ankle boots and pointed toe flats are the best shoes when wearing a midi length skirt.
5. Always tuck your shirt in. A midi skirt is chic, not frumpy. Even if you go casual with a lightweight T-shirt or tank top, make sure you have enough room to tuck it into the band of the skirt.
6. Choose the right sweep. The sweep is how much fabric the skirt has from waist to hem. Those with slim hips can opt for more fabric. Those with curves, should look for a midi skirt that gently skims the figure. Stay away from pleats if your are curvy since your curves will make the pleats rise in back.
7. Keep it simple. The silhouette of the midi skirt is trendy enough on its own, that it calls for limited styling. We love the midi skirt because they work with existing tops in our wardrobe, like silk blouses, lightweight sweaters and luxe racerback tanks. The more simple, the better when it comes to styling a midi skirt.

Midi dresses are the perfect addition to any girl’s wardrobe. Midi skirts can give a stunning look to any woman. However, many ladies experience shorter and stout look with midi dresses. This is because wearing a midi skirt is a bit tricky. So, does this means you can’t get a midi look? Of course, not! Below are some must-have tips that will help you get the desired look with midi dress:

How to Wear a Midi Skirt without Looking Short

Tip #1: Select the Right Length
This is one of the most important factors to consider while choosing a midi dress. If you want a midi dress that flatters your look, then make sure you choose the right length dress. Petite woman or woman with short legs look great in midi dresses that go over the knee while taller women can wear longer midis. Choose the right length and rock your midi look.
Tip #2: Wear Heeled Sandals
Make sure you obey this important rule while wearing midi skirts. As the midi dresses go below the knee, they can make you look short. And, if you are already petite, you might end up getting a stumpy look. Hence, we suggest that you should wear heeled sandals with your midis to elongate your legs and avoid the stumpy look.
Tip #3: Choose Right Accessories
When it comes to wearing midi skirts and dresses, don’t overdo your accessories. If you have selected patterned midi, then go with simple fashion accessories. However, if you are wearing a plain dark color midi dress for a night party, then you can use some bright accessory that complements your dress.
Tip #4: Choose Right Coat
You can wear a coat if you want to wear a midi dress during winters. Pick a coat which is as long as your midi skirt. It will help you look taller. Wearing longer coats with the midi dress can give you a perfect look in winters as well. Avoid wearing a short coat as it will make you look short.
Tip #5: Tuck a Top into a Midi Skirt
If you are wearing a midi skirt, then tuck in your shirt to get a more streamlined look. This will help you expose entire skirt from waistline to legs. You can also use short tops as shown in the above image.

You can remove grass stains from the kids' pants and red wine from your beige carpet like a pro. But what about those more obscure stains? Armed with these expert tips, you'll be able to defeat just about any trouble spot.

"A pen leaked inside my purse!" — C.L., via e-mail

THE FIX: For any type of lining, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to the stain with cheesecloth, says Tony Pecorella, a co-owner of Modern Leather Goods, a New York City leather-repair shop. Rub the stain until you no longer see progress. Chances are, you'll be left with a faded blotch. If you can't bear to live with this or aren't willing to part with the purse, you'll have to send it to a pro for relining. Be warned: This may cost $150 or more.

"I spilled wine on cherished photos!" — Liza G., via e-mail

THE FIX: You'll need a pro, whether you're dealing with Pinot or pineapple juice, an old stain or a fresh one. (Advice on fresh stains: Don't touch the surface; just shake the liquid off.) You can find a skilled photo conservator through dress-barn-coupon.blogspot.com click on Find a Conservator, then type in your ZIP code), says Monique C. Fischer, a senior photograph conservator for the Northeast Document Conservation Center, in Andover, Massachusetts. Expect to pay $100 to $250 an hour. Simple jobs can take one hour, while complex ones (like old, large stains) may call for a few hours of washing, which involves cleaning the photo with a special solvent, says Lisa Duncan, a paper and photograph conservator in Seattle. As a cheaper alternative, a digital restoration service can make a computer-generated version. Keep in mind that some details may not match the original exactly. American Photo Restoration charges $39 for both a print and a digital image of your restored picture.

"I left my patent-leather purse in a yellow plastic bag, and the color rubbed off on it."  — Adrienne, via e-mail

THE FIX: For any stains on patent leather, whether you're dealing with a bag or a shoe, dab white vinegar onto cheesecloth and gently rub the stain, says Chris Moore, the owner of Artbag, a handbag-repair shop in New York City. The blemish should vanish instantly. If it doesn't, dip a cotton swab in acetone-based nail-polish remover and lightly run it over the mark, says David Mesquita, the vice president of Leather Spa, a New York City leather-repair shop. (Spot-test first in an inconspicuous area.) To prevent dye transfer in the future, store patent leather away from colored plastic or cotton bags. (Polyester or rayon bags are fine.) And keep hand-bags separated; leaning one against another can also cause discoloration.

As Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is architecture: It is a matter of proportions.” That rule holds true even when it comes to accessories. The right details can make or break an outfit.

Jewelry

“On plus-size women, statement jewelry looks great, whereas tiny pieces can get lost,” says stylist Susan Moses, whose celebrity clients have included Queen Latifah and Wynonna Judd. Choose cuff bracelets, stacked bangles, cocktail rings, large pendant necklaces, and long necklaces “that will draw the eye up and down,” says Nicole Brewer, a stylist and fitness consultant who was a contestant on The Biggest Loser. Dangling earrings are another go-to, provided your neck is long enough to pull them off. (Alas, “they’ll just make a short neck more obvious,” says Brewer.)

Just because you can carry off pieces with substance doesn’t mean you can carry them all offsimultaneously. Be judicious: “You’re not a Christmas tree,” says Moses. When putting together an outfit, pick one high-impact piece to focus attention. Wearing a statement necklace? Forgo the look-at-me earrings. Also, study the areas on your body you want to highlight or downplay. If you’re full-busted, for instance, you may want to take a pass on an ornate necklace that hits at your décolletage and instead stack one arm with pretty bracelets.

Belts

“If you have a more defined waist, you can either wear a three-inch-wide belt or a one-inch-wide skinny belt,” says Moses. Brewer likes obi belts because they give dresses and jumpsuits a shape-enhancing, corseted look. “Find one made from a substantial fabric, like leather, that wraps around and ties securely in the back for adjustable comfort and a tailored fit,” she says. She also suggests embellished belts: “Jewel-encrusted sash belts or ones with hardware detailing in the front create a focal point.” As for skinny belts, wearing “two of the same color in different shades looks good,” says Moses. Women who carry their weight in the middle, though, may find that cinching belts right at the waistline is not flattering. “Try slinging a belt around the hips for a more boho look,” Moses suggests.

Shoes

Shoes with pointed toes lean out a silhouette more than round-toe styles. And—sorry, tootsies, but you knew this was coming—nothing beats the slenderizing power of a heel. “The lift that even the slightest heel provides works to elongate legs,” says Brewer, which means that even a short stacked heel or kitten heel will do the trick. If you have wide ankles or fuller calves, avoid T-straps and ankle straps; they will interrupt the leg-line and make legs appear wider. Opt for more open sling-backs and peekaboo styles that flatter the foot without covering too much. And if comfort is crucial, look for shoes that offer support to your heel as well as the ball of your foot, like wedges. “Nothing kills an outfit quite like the inability to walk in your shoes,” says Brewer.

Bags

“Never carry a purse that is too small,” says Moses. When you stand in front of a full-length mirror, your bag should be in proportion to your overall frame. If it gets lost against your outfit, feels overly snug when looped over your shoulder, seems to disappear in your hand, or generally makes you look like you mugged a fourth-grader, it’s time for an upgrade.

For daytime, Moses’ top picks are “an oversize hobo or shoulder bag, a bucket bag, a large tote, a substantial satchel, a large structured top-handle purse, or a cross-body bag with straps that are long enough to generously cross your body.” (The best size for you will depend on your build, but as a general rule aim for nothing smaller than 8.5 inches by 11 inches.) For evening and special occasions, Brewer says a generous envelope-style clutch is just right: “Whether carried under the arm or at the hip, a larger bag creates the look of a smaller waist.”

Dress for success... and a sexy-chic look!

A well-fitted blazer is an important staple in every woman's wardrobe. But if you've been having trouble picking out one that looks perfect on you, check out these tips on choosing a style that fits your body just right.
A good blazer can be worn for so many situations. It can give you a professional look for a job interview or add a trendy, sleek flair when you head out with the girls. A poorly fitted blazer, however, will just leave you feeling bulky, so be sure to pick the perfect one for your unique shape!

Straight shape

If you have a straight shape, it means your bust, waist and hips are more or less in line. Lucky for you, plenty of styles look great on you. The key to finding the perfect look is to pick a blazer that nips in at the waist to create a nice hourglass shape. Your even shape also means you can have fun with playful patterns and colours. The lace fabric on this ponte blazer is positively eye-catching, and the single button will give the illusion of a narrow waist (jacob.ca, $149).

Pear shape

If you have a pear shape, it means your hips are wider than your upper body, so avoid blazers that fall to your hip line, as they will cause your hips to appear larger. Instead, look for blazers that are cropped to just above your hips or ones that fall just below your hip line. Blazers that have unique notes on the top, such as wide lapels or piping on the collar, also work because they draw the eye up and help balance out your shape. This contrast lapel blazer, for instance, will give the appearance of a thinner, more defined waist and also add a unique flair to your neckline (forever21.com, $40).

Inverted triangle shape

If you have particularly wide shoulders, you are what is called an inverted triangle shape. This body type isn't the easiest to find the right blazer for, but when you do track down the right one, it will be a spectacular look for you. The key is to find a blazer with minimal or no shoulder padding, as this feature will only accentuate the size of your upper half. Blazers that are less structured and made of flowing fabric will also help give your body a softer look. Check out the relaxed shape of this woven jacket (nordstrom.com, $101).

Apple shape

Women with an apple shape are rounder through the midsection and don't have much definition at the waist. If that's the case for you, your best bet is a blazer made of thinner fabric and that falls to below your hips. Avoid bulky fabrics, as they will add unnecessary width to your midsection. This unlined, straight-cut jacket, for example, will do a great job at evening out your torso and increasing definition at the waistline (hm.com, $30).

Part1
Building a Strong Wardrobe

  1. Image titled Dress Well when You're Overweight Step 1Bullet1
    1
Know the basics of how to accentuate or hide certain areas of your body. The colors, cut and patterns you wear can draw people's eyes toward or away from your figure. Here are some basics:
    • Dark colors hide, while light colors highlight. So if you like your waist, wear a light belt over a dark shirt. If you want to hide your bottom half, wear dark pants and a lighter top.
    • Big patterns will make you look bigger, while small patterns can make you look smaller.
Image titled Dress Well when You're Overweight Step 1Bullet2
    • Avoid horizontal stripes. Stripes are okay on plus size clothing if they are diagonal or vertical. If you want to look larger in the bust area, horizontal stripes will enhance the bustline.
Image titled Dress Well when You're Overweight Step 1Bullet3
    • Don't put ruffles on anything you want to look smaller; do put them on areas you want to emphasize. This means that anyone looking at you will be attracted to the area of emphasis
    • Wear ruched or gathered fabric on areas you want to make look smaller. For instance, you might see a one-piece swimsuit with ruched panels over the belly.
Image titled Dress Well when You're Overweight Step 1Bullet5
    • Know what colors look good on you. A flattering color can make your skin tone glow, while the wrong one can make you look sallow and washed-out.
    • Wear something that is baggy like a blouse and this ensures that it's both stylish and dressed well.
  2. 2
Wear well-fitting undergarments. It's true that your underclothes are the foundation of your look - it's hard to look good when you're wearing flimsy underwear that doesn't support you sufficiently.
    • Buy a bra that fits (women). Not only will a good bra help lift your figure and make you look younger, it'll help you avoid backaches. If you're not sure what your size is, visit a department store such as Nordstrom or Dillard's (US) for a fitting. Do not go to Victoria's Secret - chances are you'll need an uncommon size, and they carry a narrow range of sizes.
    • To lose a bit of girth around your hips and thighs, wear low-legged, high-waisted underwear in a firm, supportive cotton.
Image titled Dress Well when You're Overweight Step 2Bullet2
    • Make sure you have sufficient coverage. Underwear that's too small is not underwear you should buy. If you can't find the right size at your mall or local stores, look online.
  3. Image titled Dress Well when You're Overweight Step 3
    3
Find fits and textiles that will flatter your bottom half. If you tend to carry your weight in your hips and legs (that is, you're "pear-shaped"), pay extra attention to these tips:
    • Seek out tailored skirts and trousers. Avoid flared pants and wide-leg trousers.
Image titled Dress Well when You're Overweight Step 3Bullet1
    • Avoid shapeless garments, like broomstick skirts and "one-size" dresses. Instead, find something with a nipped waist.
    • If you're looking for a skirt, you can't go wrong with an A-line cut. Avoid pencil skirts as this shapes and outlines your hips and waist. However, skirts such as skater skirts would really bring out the beauty in every individual .
    • Buy at least one pair of well-fitting jeans. Skinny or straight-leg jeans in a dark wash look great.
Image titled Dress Well when You're Overweight Step 3Bullet4
    • Be very careful with leggings. For some women, a long shirt or dress with leggings is a slimming and fashionable look. However, if you have larger hips, thighs, or bottom, it can look awful.
