Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!  You’ve purchased your dress, and maybe you’ve even picked out a veil and your shoes. You know what type and color flowers you’ll be carrying, and you and your fiancĂ© have selected your wedding bands for your upcoming nuptials.  BUT, you’re not finished yet!  Don’t forget to accessorize with some beautiful jewelry that complements your dress.
The right jewelry can take your bridal look from “beautiful” to “WOW,” but you’ll need to ensure that the jewelry you choose is a good fit for you and your dress.  Here are our top tips for selecting the right jewelry for your big day:
Don’t overdo it
Jewelry and accessories add a lovely, unique touch to your wedding dress, but they shouldn’t be the main attraction.  You don’t need a necklace, earrings, tiara, veil, and an armful of bracelets to make a statement on your wedding day.  Select a few key pieces that will offset your wedding look, and always keep in mind that less is more.
Consider your hairstyle
When you’re deciding on earrings for your wedding, keep your hairstyle in mind.  If you’ll be wearing an updo, statement earrings like chandeliers will show beautifully.  If your hair will be left down or your ears will be covered, smaller earrings like drops or studs will work.
Match precious metals to the color of your dress
Certain metals look best against certain fabric colors.  If your gown is pure white, opt for silver or platinum.  Creamy ivory fabrics pair well with yellow gold, and diamond-white fabric (which is slightly off-white) will work with any metal color.  Of course, if your dress has any beading you’ll want to account for the color of the beads and avoid any clashing colors.
Think about your neckline
The jewelry you select should complement the neckline of your gown.  Here are the most common styles and what we recommend:
Strapless or off-the-shoulder – this style gives you a lot of versatility and will allow you to choose from a wide variety of jewelry options.  A statement necklace will pair beautifully with this simple neckline.  You may also opt to skip the necklace altogether and go with a pair of stunning chandelier earrings.  Don’t be afraid of color!  With a simple neckline, you have the perfect opportunity to add a pop with some color that matches the colors you’ve selected for your flowers or wedding party.
V-neck – this style looks best with a necklace, though you do have some options. Pearl strands are a popular choice with v-necks.  A pendant on a delicate chain also pairs nicely with this style.  If your dress has a deep v-neck, consider a y-shaped necklace to accentuate the shape of the neckline.
Halter – a halter neckline looks best without a necklace.  Instead, focus on a beaded headband, crystal or diamond tiara, or crystal hairpins. If you’ll be wearing something ornate in your hair, keep your earrings simple.
Bateau – these necklines accentuate the collarbone, making it the perfect match for a short choker necklace.  Consider a multiple-strand pearl choker, or a stunning crystal or diamond statement piece.  Simple drop earrings matching the necklace add an elegant and sophisticated touch.
Illusion – An illusion neckline shouldn’t be detracted from with a necklace, so focus on earrings instead. Simple studs or stunning drop earrings accentuate this style without taking away from the dramatic, eye-catching style of the dress.
Stay true to yourself
Of course, there are no real “rules” to accessorizing your wedding dress.  You need to go with your heart and ignore any claims by friends or family that you simply “have” to wear a certain piece of jewelry. If you’re not the type of person who wears a lot of big statement jewelry, then your wedding is not the time to start.  The last thing you want is to feel uncomfortable on your special day.  Select pieces that match your unique style, tastes, and personality.
